[Somewhere in Luceti, Firo's draped over a tree branch, asleep and freshly returned from his mallynapping. He looks a little worse for the wear, but he's out of the woods (figuratively) now, isn't he?

Unfortunately, gravity's not going to give him a break today, and as soon as he shifts in his sleep Firo goes tumbling to the ground. How's that for a wake up call?

It's not far of a fall, but Firo's incredibly ungraceful landing doesn't do him any favors. There's a crunching sound as he hits the ground, twisted around so that he lands on his left hand.]

Ah-! Ow-! Shit!

[Firo stays lying like that for a moment: both in the process of waking up and cursing everything from the malnosso to the tree- whatever he can blame for this situation. Then, with some reluctance, he rolls onto his side and stares at his hand with a mixture of pain and consternation. Unlike what he's become used to over the past few years, it stays stubbornly broken. His eyes widen. This is not how it's supposed to work...]

What? Why isn't it-?

[He tries to flex his fingers and winces; it's then that he catches a glimpse of his journal lying open nearby. Great. Of course it had to show off one of his less dignified moments.]

Damnit... Are you kiddin' me?

[Sighing and gritting his teeth against the pain, he pulls himself into a sitting position. Arms crossed over his chest, he takes a deep breath and tries to recover some aplomb.]

So... Guess I'm back. Screw this place.

[ooc: Firo's back from being mallynapped and is now going to be without his immortality for a while. After a few weeks it'll return to its normal Luceti dampened state.]

Makes sense, I guess. How many other pokemon have ya got?

Quite a few! I only carry six on me at a time, and three with me here.

You can carry him?

Yeah! In these things. [He'll hold up a pokeball for reference. Pretty simple little device.]

It kinda shrinks them down, so they can live in there!

They can get that tiny? It doesn't squish 'em?

[No matter how hard he tries, he just can't picture something as big as Poli getting into something so tiny.]

Yeah! They just kinda shrink down. It doesn't hurt 'em or anything.

[He scratches his head.]

How's that work? Can ya do that with people, too?

Nah, not with people! Man, if only we could do something like that. Traveling would be a lot easier!

Sure would.

[He laughs, but then is hit by an unpleasant thought.]

Unless somebody dropped you or lost you. That ever happen with one of your guys?

Nah, not to me! I take care of 'em. Can't say they've been dropped before, but someone smashed the locks on 'em once. I just had to get them swapped to a new ball.

I take it this person wasn't a friend of yours? Why would they wanna do somethin' like that?

Yeah, not really! If I couldn't get my pokemon out, I couldn't battle him, so... It'd be a win for him! Kinda a dirty way to win, but... yeah.

[He shifts around so that he's sitting in a more comfortable position, wincing slightly as he does so. It seems like there might be a story here and on top of his curiosity he's eager for a distraction.]

Hang on, why couldn't you fight him yourself?

Well... it's just supposed to be a Pokemon battle. I don't really fight myself.

A Pokemon battle... So your friends fight for you?

[He frowns; that doesn't sound exactly fair to use friends like that.]

Yeah, mostly! Sometimes I've gotta avoid being hit too, for the trainers that go after me with their pokemon, instead of mine, so it's not always that safe. It just kinda depends! I don't like going after them.

Huh. How hard for you.

[That's a bit of light sarcasm. He can't completely criticize the method of letting others fight for you; that's how most Mafia bosses do it. He just can't imagine doing the same.]

Poli and your other guys like doin' that?

Well yeah! I mean, I don't force them to or anything. They think it's fun, too!

And they fight other Pokemon? Is that a big thing where you come from?

Yeah! Most trainers try to get into the Pokemon League! It's a big tournament, and whoever wins is crowned Champion for that tournament! It's really exciting, and it's broadcast and stuff.

Like over the radio? Have you and Poli and the rest of 'em ever entered?

Radio, TV... it's everywhere! But yeah, I have! You're lookin' at the Champion of the Indigo League! I didn't enter any of the other years, but I won my first year!

Champion, huh? That must a' been tough.

Yeah, it was! It took a lot of training to get that strong!

Trainin' for your Pokemon, right? What do you do?

[He's actually curious and not just asking to be annoying. Mostly.]
