[Somewhere in Luceti, Firo's draped over a tree branch, asleep and freshly returned from his mallynapping. He looks a little worse for the wear, but he's out of the woods (figuratively) now, isn't he?

Unfortunately, gravity's not going to give him a break today, and as soon as he shifts in his sleep Firo goes tumbling to the ground. How's that for a wake up call?

It's not far of a fall, but Firo's incredibly ungraceful landing doesn't do him any favors. There's a crunching sound as he hits the ground, twisted around so that he lands on his left hand.]

Ah-! Ow-! Shit!

[Firo stays lying like that for a moment: both in the process of waking up and cursing everything from the malnosso to the tree- whatever he can blame for this situation. Then, with some reluctance, he rolls onto his side and stares at his hand with a mixture of pain and consternation. Unlike what he's become used to over the past few years, it stays stubbornly broken. His eyes widen. This is not how it's supposed to work...]

What? Why isn't it-?

[He tries to flex his fingers and winces; it's then that he catches a glimpse of his journal lying open nearby. Great. Of course it had to show off one of his less dignified moments.]

Damnit... Are you kiddin' me?

[Sighing and gritting his teeth against the pain, he pulls himself into a sitting position. Arms crossed over his chest, he takes a deep breath and tries to recover some aplomb.]

So... Guess I'm back. Screw this place.

[ooc: Firo's back from being mallynapped and is now going to be without his immortality for a while. After a few weeks it'll return to its normal Luceti dampened state.]

Well, everything is made up of fonons, and there are seven types of them. They let people and monsters use magic. Not a lot of people can use Seventh Fonons, but if you can you can do a lot of things with them.

Sounds like some pretty amazin' things...

[He wants to ask why they can't use that to revive her mother, but decides against it. The reason's probably too complicated for him or too painful for her.]

So how come your island got destroyed in the first place? That Anise kid and her crew?

[ Oh, she asked. She practically begged. But in the end, they didn't have the data to do it.

Arietta shakes her head. ]

No. It was a while ago. People were fighting a war, and they made a really big wave. It sunk the whole island. That was when Mommy found me and rescued me.

Like a tsunami?

[It certainly sounds like this kid has had a stressful life.]

Is stuff like that normal where you come from?

No... there was a war. They destroyed another island, and that made the wave.

Where I come from, normally people'd just take it over, not completely destroy it. Why would they wanna do that?

I don't know. I guess they didn't like them. Destroying someone's home can really, really hurt. ... That happened to Mommy, too.

Yeah... I'm sorry.

Is your island safe now that that guy put it back together?

[They say lightning never strikes twice, but misfortune sure does.]

I think so. I was going there when I came here instead, but no one said anything bad had happened to it again. If anyone does anything to it, they'll be in a lot of trouble, though.

Trouble? 'Cause you'd teach 'em a lesson?

Yes. So would Van. My island is really important for what Van wants to do. Both of us would get really upset if something happened to it. So I think it's safe this time.

Well, that's good.

What's that guy need an island for?

[He can't think of any sort of scheme that would require one.]

We're going to use it as a base. He's keeping a replica machine there, too.

A replica...machine? Is that what he used to remake your island? What's he need it for now?

We're making the whole world. I don't really understand everything, but I know that Van is doing the right thing! Ion was helping him!

[Sure. Forgive him for being incredibly skeptical.]

You're wrapped up in some pretty serious stuff, huh?

[ Don't ask the little girl to explain the super villain's scheme. It won't go well. ]

I don't mind it. As long as I can avenge Mommy and Ion, I'll do anything.

Wait, ya mean that-

[That Ion guy is dead too? Only a sudden remembrance of tact prevents Firo from blurting out the full question.]

I mean, uh, that makes sense. It's good to pay back who you owe.

[ She nods ]

They both did so much for me. This is how I'll repay them.

[He really doesn't envy her being stuck with her enemies and yet unable to get rid of them.]

[He nods, barely managing not to wince. Firo has a pretty big amount of sympathy for any kid struggling on their own; he knows from firsthand experience it's not at all easy.]
