[It's early in the morning-after a night of much boredom and little sleep- when Firo opens his journal.]

I've been wonderin': what kinda weapons do people use back where you guys come from? Where I live, people'll fight with anything from fists to tommy guns, but I figure everywhere's gotta have somethin' different.

[Later that morning, Firo sets off running for the Battle Dome. He hasn't been too pleased with himself lately: he failed to be effective against the droids that attacked a few weeks ago, and then he couldn't even protect his friend from being mallynapped. Actually, ever since Ennis was kidnapped before his arrival in Luceti he's felt nagging feelings of uselessness. They've only been intensified by recent events.

He has to get stronger. The capos of his Family would be disappointed if they saw him like this. In the back of his mind Firo can practically hear Yaguruma berating him.

He spends most of the day at the Battle Dome, focusing on training until he's ready to drop (though feel free to interrupt him). Maybe trying to go so long without a break isn't a good idea, but that doesn't matter to Firo at this point. When nightfall comes, he wanders outside and slumps by the door, exhausted.

I use a jitte, but pretty much everyone has something different. Swords and rifles are common, a few pirates use pistols, both sides have cannons, and sometimes bigger bombs. There are also devil fruit powers and haki.

[He has a lot of questions swirling around his head now; it takes a moment just to pick one.]

[Smoker's mention of there being two "sides" didn't catch his attention, but the mention of pirates sure did.]

Marine. [He'd be more amused by everyone thinking he's a pirate if there were more marines around, but oh well.]

Ah. Okay. So what's that jitte thing you mentioned?

[It's amazing how often that happens in Luceti.]

It's a pike weapon with a tine near the handle for helping block swords and catch organs. It's blunt, so less damaging than a sword.

I've never heard a' anything like that before. Have ya got it here with ya?

I do. And a few spares made for those I'm teaching lessons to.

You teach people? Here?

Correct. With the drafts, there's no telling when self-defense will be necessary so it's better to be prepared.

Hey, think you could show me a bit about how to use that? I use a knife but it can't hurt to try pickin' up somethin' else, can it?

It'd be my pleasure. I do group sessions and one on one training, I recommend combining both for maximum potential. And the group sessions currently just have beginners anyway so you don't need to worry about catching up.

Seems like it's pretty much the only thing to do here. Have you picked up any other weapons since ya got here?

Not really my inclination. Jitte's always worked for me, and when it doesn't I have the hand-to-hand or my devil fruit. And now haki.

The guy who's taught me a lotta what I know says it's better to pick up whatever ya can; never know when it'll come in handy. He's managed to soak up somethin' from almost any style he's seen, I think.

Speakin' a which, what's 'devil fruit'? Is that some sorta fightin' style you guys got back at home?

If it works for him that's great, but it's not really my style. If something happens with the jitte, that's what the hand to hand is for.

A devil fruit is more like a type of superpower. Mine is smoke logia. I can turn into and control smoke.

How..? Wait a second, wouldn't you just blow away if you did that?

You're underestimating how concentrated it can be.
