7th Hat Flip [Voice/Action]

[After having a close friend return home a few weeks ago, Firo's been largely keeping to himself. He was aware of the danger of losing friends in Luceti, but it always seemed abstract and alien until it actually happened.

It's boredom that finally prompts him to address the network. That and the concern that if he doesn't keep using his skills he'll be near useless when he gets back home. Why not kill two birds with one stone?]

Does anybody here wanna play cards? Any kinda game is fine, or even if you just wanna learn. Most of 'em aren't that hard to pick up and I don't mind teachin' anyone.

[His tone suddenly becomes less light and takes a turn for the grouchier.]

But if you're gonna cheat, save it. I'll know.

[He wasn't put in charge of a Family casino for nothing.]

[Action]

[Soon after he makes his message, Firo will be rummaging through the item shop for a few packs of cards, carefully going through each one he finds to make sure they're complete. Then he'll linger a little while by the art supplies to pick up some markers.

...No, he is not going to be using them to mark the cards.]

Nah. We just skip the parts where we'd normally bet.

[He smiles mischievously, not realizing that his attempt at joking might not be appreciated.]

Besides, I think Seto'd get mad if I cleared his best friend out.

[He gives a Look at that.]

Yeah, as if that would ever happen.

[He could easily mean "getting cleared out" or even just "Seto getting mad" too]

[In his overconfidence Firo finds it inconceivable that he wouldn't completely wallop a rookie--no way he'd go easy on him--so he assumes Crow's referring to Seto. He pauses in his shuffling and shrugs.]

Okay, maybe not mad, but he'd be upset.

[Well yes, he would be, but instead Crow says--] No way, he'd be cheering for me because I'm gonna find a way to win at this game.

[...Even though we've never played this game before until now.]

What?

[He laughs and continues shuffling. Time for some good old fashioned trash talking?]

C'mon, you don't even know how to play yet. And even when you do, don't think it'll be easy to win.

Just watch me. I could be better than anyone once I get the hang of this--maybe even better than you.

[Crow, no, no you won't, you didn't even know that this game existed until just now.]

Yeah, right. I've beaten guys with way more experience than you.

[He taps the deck on the table.]

Are you ready to actually try and play now? Or are you gonna give up and save me the trouble of beatin' you?

[Hahaha no way]

As if! Let's start playin' already!

Alright.

[He places three cards in front of each of them, one face up and two face down. Setting the deck to the side, he taps both of Crow's face down cards.]

These're your hole cards. You can look at 'em, but don't show 'em to me. Normally the face up card would decide who's gotta bet first--the one with the lowest card--but we're not doin' that.

[ooc: How would you like to do this? Should we each determine which cards our respective characters have or skip over it?]

[He looks down at the cards curiously (and setting aside the deck that you were letting us look at a moment ago) before reaching out and picking up one of the facedown cards, turning it over for him to look at by himself.]

Then what are we doing with the face up one instead?

[ooc: Haha I can go either way, it's up to you. (It's probable Crow will lose the first few times or so anyway no matter what his cards are XD)]

Nothin' yet. Now's the part where we'd go around and either raise, call, or fold.

[He picks up the deck again to give each of them a face up card, then realizes that Crow probably doesn't know those terms.]

Raise is to put in a higher bet than the last person, call is to put in the same one, and fold is to resign. We'll skip all that too,

[ooc: I guess saving it for the end, then, if that'll work for you?]

[Wow there's a lot more rules than he had thought was left to this game.]

...Okay, then what?

[ooc: Yeah, that's fine with me!]

Now that we've both got four cards, normally we'd bet again. We'll skip that, too, so now...

[And he gives them each another face up card.]

Then we'd bet again. Think you're gettin' the hang a' this?

[ooc: Alrighty, thanks!]

I think so? [Sort of? Still a little confused but he's doing his best to memorize the instructions for this.]

[It probably doesn't help that this is the first time Firo's ever taught someone; most of the picciotto working for him come in already knowing how to play.]

It might make more sense once we're done. But really it's mostly just repeatin' the same thing over again. You bet, get your cards, then bet again.

[He slides them each yet another face up card.

See? So now we'd bet again, and then you get another card.

[He gives them both their sixth card, once again face up.]

...Okay, but how do you know when the game's over? How many cards do you get?

C'mon, weren't you payin' attention? It's called seven card stud for a reason.

[Smiling, he gives them each their final card, this time face down.]

Now that we've both got all our cards, here's when we'd make the last bet. For now, just see if you can figure out what hand you got and see who woulda' won.

[Well okay...he picks up the face down cards to look at again, looking between them and the face-up ones.

...Well, it's no flush or anything, most of his cards seem to be a little random with different numbers and suits. There's a king of hearts, but then there's this two of spades over here face-up...

Even though he hasn't said anything, it's pretty obvious that Crow's not sure what to make of his cards exactly.]

[Firo glances over to see Crow's predicament.,/small>]

You can keep your face down ones up; now that the betting's done you don't need to hide 'em anymore. Might help if you can look at all of 'em at the same time.

[Firo turns over his cards. The highest is a nine of hearts, followed by an eight of spades, a six of hearts, a five of clubs, and a four of diamonds. Then there's a pair of threes, a diamond and a spade. A pretty lackluster hand; if he had any cards up his sleeve he would have slipped them out a while ago.]

Huh, really? [You said we weren't supposed to show them...but if it's okay now, then fine, he'll flip them over.

He has...a king of hearts, a pair of twos (spades and hearts), seven of clubs, eight of hearts, five of diamonds, and a jack of spades. A bit all over the map, this one. 8\]

Well, yeah. If you didn't turn 'em over now then you could say you had any hand you wanted and I'd hafta believe you.

[Firo glances at Crow's cards, then looks back at him.]

Do you think you know what hand you got?

[...Did Firo even specify what makes up each hand?]

[.........Yeah he's not sure. He stares at his cards for a moment before he points to the two of hearts and two of spades he has.]

Isn't there something you get when you have two cards with the same number or something?

[Firo smiles and nods, excited that Crow's getting the hang of it.]

Yeah, it's a pair. Not the best as far as hands go, but it ain't like I got much better.

[He slides the pair of threes up so Crow can see them.]

Oh, so you only got two cards--a pair as well.

[But they're threes...so does that mean Firo won since our cards are just twos...]

Yeah. Looks like mine are higher by just a hair, though.

[He shrugs, it's not such a great victory especially considering it's Crow's first time. What's nice is that Crow seems to be learning.]

See, you can't really help what your cards are--well, you can, but that's cheatin'--the real skill is how you place your bets.
